Remembering Dolly

American country singer, Dolly Parton, sadly passed away in August. Dolly was one of twelve children, born in a one-room cabin in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. The family were incredibly poor, but rich in love. Dolly was an amazing person: not only a song writer, but also a tenacious business woman and philanthropist who through her foundation, The Imagination Library, helped thousands of children to read.

In her honour, here is one of her songs about her childhood. The line, ‘one is only poor if they choose to be,’ will stay with me for a long time. I hope you like it.
